If you're looking to get outside this weekend, you won't want to miss the 8th annual Brooke Jackman Race for Literacy 5k in Oyster Bay to raise money to support literacy for at-risk children. The 3.1-mile race will take place on Saturday, May 18, and run through the towns of Oyster Bay and Oyster Bay Cove.

The Brooke Jackman Foundation is a nonprofit organization created by the Oyster Bay-based Jackman family that promotes literacy for underserved children in the greater New York area. The foundation was created 12 years ago to honor Brooke Jackman, a 23-year-old avid reader who was killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Along with the traditional 5k (cash prizes will be awarded to the top finishers), there will be a 1/4 mile Fun Run for children 8-years-old and under. There will be yoga and refreshments for all runners, and each participant will also receive a Race for Literacy 5k T-shirt and water bottle.
