Crayola renames crayons for 110th anniversary
Which makes you want to color more? A crayon called red? Or one dubbed “Lady Bug”? Green? Or "Jalapeno"?
When Crayola first launched a box of eight crayons in 1903, it merely labeled them red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown and black. This year, 110 years later, the company decided it's time for a name makeover.
Crayola asked consumers to create new names for each of the original colors. Here are the winners:
Red – Ladybug
Orange– Freshly Squeezed
Yellow – Sunny Side Up
Green – Jalapeño
Blue – BeYOUtiful Blue
Purple – Peace, Love & Purple
Brown – Freckle
Black – Night Owl
The winning names are featured in a limited edition 1903-style Crayola crayon pack, sold exclusively on Crayola’s Facebook page for $4.99, http://on.fb.me/13lQdEG.
