3 fallen LI firefighters added to Albany memorial wall

To Sayville fire commissioner Don Corkery, the question of whether firefighter Wilbur Ritter died in the line of duty was simple.

When his pager alerted him to a fire call in August 2006, Ritter, a 78-year-old fire policeman, rushed to the Sayville firehouse. But before he could board a truck, Ritter collapsed from an apparent heart attack. He later died at a hospital.
