BREEZY POINT - More than a dozen families in Queens who lost their homes to fire during Sandy are planning to sue LIPA.

About 130 homes were leveled when flames engulfed Breezy Point during the storm.

The surge from Sandy prevented firefighters from battling the blaze.

The New York Post reports that 17 families claim LIPA left the power on during the storm.

According to the residents, a mixture of seawater and electricity caused the fire.

Con Edison, which provides power to the rest of New York City, turned the power off in areas prone to coastal flooding.
