Car on tracks delays several LIRR trains

The Long Island Rail Road Sunday night reported several delays and a cancellation due to an "unauthorized car" stuck on the tracks just east of the Mineola station.

An LIRR spokeswoman said the vehicle was stuck on the Willis Avenue crossing Sunday evening, and police requested that power to the rails be turned off as they attempted to remove the vehicle.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the vehicle was removed and service resumed, though "residual delays" were expected, said LIRR spokeswoman Marjorie Anders.

The 5:23 p.m. from Patchogue due at Jamaica at 6:32 p.m., was being held at Hicksville.

The 5:32 p.m. train from Penn Station due at Ronkonkoma at 6:54 p.m. was being held at Mineola.

The 5:36 p.m. train from Huntington due at Port Jefferson at 6:25 p.m. was operating 10 minutes late due to a late-arriving connection.

The 5:40 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma due at Penn Station at 6:59 p.m., was being held at Hicksville.

The 6:32 p.m. train from Penn Station, due at Ronkonkoma at 7:54 p.m., was canceled.
