Thunderstorms, potentially severe, are possible on Long Island Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

Forecasters have issued a hazardous weather outlook statement, warning of the potential storms in both Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as the five boroughs.

"Thunderstorm development is expected this afternoon and evening,” the warning reads. "Some storms will have the potential to become severe with damaging winds the main threat . . . A humid air mass will allow for locally heavy rain. Areas of urban and small stream flooding can be expected in the heaviest activity.”
