A West Babylon man faces grand larceny charges for trying to scam a credit union, Nassau County police said Wednesday.

K-mel Griffin, 18, of 86 Essex St., opened a savings and checking account in November at Bethpage Credit Union at 6257 Sunrise Hwy. in Massapequa, police said.

According to detectives from the Crimes Against Property Squad, Griffin deposited checks from closed accounts into the credit union account using mobile banking.

He then withdrew the money from the credit union, creating a $3,000 loss, police said.
