One teen was shot and another wounded by a machete in an attack early Monday on a group gathered on a Brentwood street, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the attack occurred just after midnight on Apple Street. The shooting victim, identified only as a 19-year-old from Brentwood, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was treated and released.

Police said the machete victim was a 17-year-old from Brentwood who “tripped and fell” while trying to flee the shooting. He was then struck in the face “multiple times” with a machete and was admitted to a hospital, where police said he was scheduled for surgery.

His condition was not immediately known.

Police said the two victims were among a group standing in front of a home on Apple Street when three men approached — one firing a gun, striking the 19-year-old. Attempting to flee, police said the 17-year-old then tripped — and was attacked.

Police would not say if they are investigating if the attack is gang-related. No arrests have been made.
