30-year-old jogger wearing headphones struck, killed by train in West Haverstraw

The incident occurred as the multi-car freight train was on its way to upstate New York.

WEST HAVERSTRAW - A jogger was struck and killed by a freight train today in Rockland County.

Employees at Raines & Welsh & Sons Contractors, a utility contractor located near the train tracks, say they saw the incident occur. They say the 30-year-old man was running on the tracks while wearing headphones just north of Railroad Avenue in Haverstraw.

Witnesses say the train engineer sounded his horn multiple times but the runner did not react.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim.
