A Hampton Bays man faces a drunken-driving charge after hitting a van parked in the driveway of a home and sending it into the family room, police said.
Southampton Town police said A.J. Glass, 40, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed his 2002 Jeep into the 2008 Chevrolet van parked at the home on Gardenia Avenue, near Wakeman Road, in Hampton Bays at 2:28 a.m.
Police said the Jeep crashed into the van, pushing it through garage doors into the family room of the house and causing “pretty significant damage.” The home was occupied at the time, but police said none of the residents was injured.
Police initially said they believed Glass had struck the van while it was parked in the garage. That account was modified after an investigation.
Glass was transported by Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance to Southampton Hospital for treatment, then released and arrested, police said.
Police said that, in addition to DWI, Glass was issued a summons for unreasonable speed.
He was arraigned Friday in Southampton Town Justice Court and ordered held in lieu of $2,500 cash bail, police said.
