A Riverside man was arrested last week in connection with an ongoing drug investigation in Southampton, Southampton Town police said Monday.

Charles Kendall Johnson, 32, was arrested following a traffic stop by Southampton police last Wednesday and was ordered held in Suffolk County Jail in lieu of $12,500 bail, following arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court.

It was not immediately clear if Johnson is represented by counsel. His next court appearance also was not known.

Police said Johnson was arrested following “a lengthy investigation” that found evidence he “was selling heroin within the township, as well as other areas of Suffolk County.” Police said some of that heroin “is believed to be linked to several overdoses” in Southampton, as well as other areas of Suffolk.

Police said that officers attempted to stop Johnson as he drove his 2017 Chevrolet Malibu on Riverleigh Avenue, but said he did not immediately stop. His vehicle was later stopped and he was taken into custody.
