The Abandoned Infant Protection Act or Safe Haven law, passed in 2000, allows parents to leave unwanted newborns at "safe havens," such as hospitals, police stations or fire stations. The parents will not face legal prosecution provided the baby is no more than 5 days old, and the parents make sure the baby is in no danger and the authorities are notified.
