Nassau police on Friday arrested a Kings Park man who they said burglarized a Bethpage home and tried to get into another one before police caught him.

Second Squad detectives said George Henry Diamond, 28, of The Boulevard would be charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree attempted burglary and possession of burglar tools when he is arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said they received a call reporting a “suspicious person” in the back yard of a home on South Robert Damm Street shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, but when they arrived the person was gone.

They received a similar call of a man inside a home on nearby Brenner Avenue. When they responded, officers found Diamond in the rear of Central Boulevard Elementary School and arrested him, police said.

Their investigation found that Diamond had entered a Brenner Avenue home and, when confronted by the homeowner, tried to enter another one on the street but was warded off by another homeowner, police said.

Diamond was being held overnight at police headquarters and his attorney could not be reached for comment.
