An Atlantic Beach man accused of robbing a Long Beach bank on Sunday morning was arrested just blocks away from the branch, police said.

Lon M. Diamond, 42, is charged with third-degree robbery, Long Beach Lt. Eric Cregeen said. Online court records did not say when he would be arraigned.

Diamond allegedly passed a note demanding money to a teller at the TD Bank branch on Long Beach Road around 11:30 a.m., Cregeen said. The teller handed over “an undetermined amount of cash.”

“The bank teller was crafty enough to trip the alarm,” Cregeen said, which summoned officers to the area.

A suspect matching Diamond’s description was seen jumping into a car on Monroe Boulevard, about a block from the bank, the lieutenant said. Diamond then allegedly drove the wrong way down East Fulton Street for three blocks, where he was arrested by Officer Rudy Pennetti.

The cash was recovered and no one was hurt, Cregeen said. There were other customers inside the bank at the time, which is open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
