Suffolk police charged a Mastic Beach man on Sunday in connection with the burglary of two local businesses in one night.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, an officer responded to an automatic alarm at American Car Care, 5 Commack Rd. in Mastic Beach. There, the officer discovered a broken window and arrested John Nuzzi, 26, of Lynbrook Drive, who was nearby.

A police dog later picked up a trail from American Car Care to a wooded area near another business, Ultimate Mower and Tools, at 28 Commack Rd. The K-9 found Nuzzi’s bicycle and box cutters, police said.

An investigation revealed that Nuzzi had burglarized Ultimate Mower earlier in the morning, police said.

Nuzzi was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of criminal possession of burglar tools. Police also charged him with fourth-degree grand larceny in an unrelated theft of tools from Ultimate Mower on April 26.

Nuzzi was being held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.
