Ivan F. Colon, 42, of Hoeffner Avenue, faces assault and weapon charges Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.

The stabbing was preceded by an argument, police said.

“As the argument became more heated the defendant picked up two silver metal kitchen knives and stabbed his mother seven times in the neck, arms, and both hands causing lacerations,” police said in a statement.

Colon fled the residence, and responding Fifth Precinct police officers found him a short time later in the rear lot of a Target store on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.
