Nassau detectives arrested a 73-year-old Farmingdale man who they said made a telephone threat Wednesday against Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes James Stefanich and warned he’d “come there and shoot people.”

Athanasios Athanasiou, of Colonial Drive, is charged with second-degree aggravated harassment after police said he dialed in the threats to the Town of Oyster Bay’s billing department at about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Second Squad detectives and town spokeswoman Marta Kane said Athanasiou was angry because he had been penalized with a late charge on a tax payment.

Town officials called police after the call ended and detectives arrested Athanasiou at his home, police said.

Neither Athanasiou nor an attorney representing him could be reached for comment. He was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in First District Court in Hempstead on April 14.
