Surveillance video from a business shows a hit-and-run driver strike a pedestrian Sunday morning in East Patchogue and the victim roll off the sport utility vehicle’s hood.
The crash in East Patchogue killed Warren Karstendick, 64, as he walked along Main Street just before 7 a.m. Sunday, police said. Karstendick was blind, the victim’s brother has said, and should not have been out on his own.
In the video obtained by News 12 Long Island from a car dealership, the SUV driver appears to look toward the pedestrian before his vehicle zooms out of camera range.
Suffolk police said they are looking for what appears to be a dark blue Ford Explorer, possibly from 2002 to 2005, with front-end damage to the hood and grill.
The video shows the SUV has gray or light-colored trim over the wheel wells and tinted rear windows.
Detectives said anyone with information can call the major case unit at 631-852-6553 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.
