Nassau County police said it’s unclear why a man knocked down a teenager and then shouted at her Sunday near the Lake Success Shopping Center in North New Hyde Park.

The victim, 16, was walking south on New Hyde Park Road alongside the shopping center shortly before 3 p.m. when she was approached from behind and grabbed by a man, Third Squad detectives said.

The man spun her around, pushed her to the ground and then, pulling her up by her sweatshirt, began to shake her, police said.

He stated “come here” to the victim, who was unable to escape his grasp, police said. She screamed for help, and a woman who saw the incident came to her aid, causing the attacker to run off north on New Hyde Park Road, police said.

Police said the suspect’s “intentions weren’t completely clear.” He is described as being about 6 feet tall with a stocky build and was wearing a black hoodie with a paint-spattered design.

Police said the hood covered most of his face.

The girl had minor scratches to her arm and declined medical attention, police said.
