An off-duty rookie NYPD officer had his jaw broken when he tried to break up a fight at a Manhattan bar between five Long Island men, the NYPD said Tuesday.

The officer, who joined the NYPD seven months ago, was at the Brass Monkey on Little West 12th Street in the Meatpacking District at about 1:35 a.m. Sunday when he saw the five men fighting, police said.

The men then targeted the officer, identified by a source as Timothy Keane, 24, sending him to Lenox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, where he was in stable condition, police said.

Initially, all five men were arrested, but the Manhattan District attorney’s office brought charges against only Matthew Tacktill, 23, of Northport, and Thomas Gagliardi, 23, of Baldwin.

Each was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault, one misdemeanor count of attempted assault and harassment, a violation. Gagliardi declined to comment Tuesday and Tacktill could not be reached.
