Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney raises nearly $1 million in recent quarter
Democrat Sean Patrick Maloney's campaign said Monday that the Cold Spring attorney has raised nearly $1 million in the most recent quarter toward his bid to oust Republican Congresswoman Nan Hayworth in the Nov. 6 election.
Maloney's campaign didn't provide a breakdown of contributions and expenditures (the filings aren't due to the Federal Election Commission until Oct. 15), but said the campaign still has about $825,000 cash on hand as of the end of the quarter.
Maloney also has received financial support from Democratic Super PACs, including the House Majority PAC, a group established by Democratic strategists, which has spent more than $1 million on campaign ads in the district as part of a national campaign to try to take back control of the House of Representatives.
Republicans currently hold a 49-seat majority in the House, 242 to 193. To reclaim the House, Democrats would need to pick up an additional 25 seats.
Hayworth's campaign hasn't yet released her campaign finance report for the most recent quarter. As of June 30, Hayworth had raised more than $2.1 million and has about $1.4 million on hand. That doesn't include yet-to-be-disclosed spending by Republican PACs on campaign ads in the nationally watched congressional race.
