The Nassau County payroll surpassed the $1 billion mark in 2014, according to county records.
Three departments accounted for the lion's share of that, a Newsday database shows: the police, Nassau County Community College and Nassau County Correctional Center.
Nine employees were paid more than $500,000 for the year -- and the top 100 all made more than $300,000.See alsoSearch Nassau's 2014 payroll
