A Brentwood middle school student who brought a BB gun to school in his book bag Tuesday has been suspended, a school spokesman said.

Robocalls about the incident from Superintendent Levi McIntyre went out to parents of children in the district, said spokesman Felix Adeyeye.

McIntyre told parents: “I want to be as transparent as I can. This call is to inform you that our Security Department received a tip that a student at South Middle School was in possession of a gun.

“The Director of Security responded along with a security supervisor and contacted the principal at approximately 11 a.m. A search was conducted, the student who was identified was found with a BB gun in his book bag.” the superintendent said.

The gun was confiscated at approximately 11:08 a.m., and Suffolk police were immediately notified, McIntyre said.

Adeyeye said the superintendent responded in accordance with the district’s safety plan. He said the robocalls went out twice, and that administrators and teachers were notified by email.
