THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a $109,164,588 budget for 2017-18, a 1.42 percent increase from the current $107,636,445.

The tax levy would increase by 1.5 percent, from $68,253,934 to $69,274,466. This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority will be required to pass the budget.

The average single-family home would pay $10,522 in taxes, an increase of 1.66 percent over the current $10,350.

The proposed budget includes step increases of 2.25 percent for teachers. It also includes an additional three staff positions and smaller elementary school classes.

A proposition asks voters to approve spending $1.4 million from the district’s capital fund for improvements to tennis courts, masonry, a boiler, parking lot drainage, ceilings, bathrooms and a science lab. The district said the proposition would not increase taxes.
