Hello. I am Joie Tyrrell, a reporter at Newsday for the past 10 years and a native of Long Island. I am a product of the local public schools, having graduated from Bethpage High School in 1985. And now, I am a parent in the public school system, having a first-grader in the schools in Huntington and another about to enter pre-school next year.
Like many Long Islanders, I am very interested in what goes on in our schools, from what they are serving for lunch to new mandates from the state. I’d like this blog to be all things education – from when a new superintendent is appointed to new programs offered in districts to report card feedback. Schools are such a part of our life here at so many levels from the local school board to the state to the federal government and there are so many issues to explore. Thanks for reading.
