Campo said she always feared she would freeze up in a crisis and forget her CPR training. That didn't happen on the day her coach collapsed from a heart attack. She quickly performed CPR, for the first time, and helped save his life. (May 31, 2012)

College: McLaughlin has applied to Arizona State, Oregon State and the University of Denver to study environmental science.

McLaughlin built a solar-powered irrigation system for his school’s greenhouse and a solar-powered classroom for poor students in Fiji. He and his classmates will travel to the island nation to set it up. (May 31, 2012)

Reindl survived a brush with death after having a heart attack last year during a basketball game. An AED saved her life, and she has in turn raised money for the foundation that promotes usage of the life-saving device. (May 31, 2012)

Shah, who is also her school’s valedictorian, experimented for more than two years to come up with a cheaper, all-natural mosquito repellent. She won a $25,000 scholarship for the project and is trying to patent the formula. (May 31, 2012)

Sully had a stroke in the eighth grade; it started while he was playing basketball. “I tried to put on my left sneaker, but it felt like it weighed 1,000 pounds,” he said. The stroke left him with a limp. He is writing a memoir about his experience. (May. 30, 2012)
