Kramer Lane Elementary School fourth graders have been working together to make a difference in the environment. Classes have joined in various service projects as part of their participation in the “Schools Go Green” project with News 12 Long Island. One of these initiatives is an “up-cycling” project with TerraCycle, the makers of eco-friendly products sold at major retail stores.

The students collect and sort food packages such as chip bags and snack wrappers, then box and send them to TerraCycle for recycling. TerraCycle uses the materials to create “green” school supplies, gardening products, household cleaners, and more. Additionally, TerraCycle donates money to the Kramer Lane PTA or any charity of choice for every wrapper or bag the school collects.
