VOTING

7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Norman J. Levy Lakeside School.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $49,277,857 budget for 2017-18, a 2.43 percent increase from the current $48,109,405. The tax levy would increase 1.77 percent, from $38,066,359 to $38,740,195.

This increase is equal to the district’s tax-cap limit, so a simple majority will be required to approve the budget.

The district said the dollar amount of school taxes paid on the average single-family house under the proposed budget could not be provided because final assessment figures are not available.

Teacher salary increases are estimated, subject to negotiations.

The proposed budget maintains programs and services for students.

Voters also will be asked to approve the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s 2017-18 budget of $153,666,863. Another proposition asks voters to allow the high school district to spend more than $1.5 million from a capital reserve fund to cover infrastructure improvements.
