VOTING

7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Seaford Harbor School and Seaford Manor School.

THE BUDGET

The district proposes a $66,540,814 budget for 2017-18, a 1.88 percent increase from the current $65,310,448. The tax levy would increase 1.72 percent, from $49,256,116 to $50,104,002. This increase is within the district’s tax-cap limit of 2.02 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.

The district did not provide the dollar amount of the school tax paid on the average single-family house under the proposed budget.

The proposed budget includes an average 0.25 percent salary increase and an average 1.875 percent step increase for teachers. The proposed budget preserves existing programs and adds a Teachers College English Language Arts program for grades K-5, and an Advanced Placement Capstone enrichment program at the high school.

The ballot includes a proposition that would reduce the distance limit for school transportation eligibility to 0.8 miles for students in grades 6 through 12. The current mileage limit is 1.5 miles for high school students, and 1 mile for middle school students. The cost is approximately $148,000, which will be raised through the local tax levy but would not result in a tax increase exceeding the tax cap.

Another proposition would authorize the sale of 2,500 square feet of district land for $13,000.
