Faces of Sandy: Geovanni Alvarado

When Geovanni Alvarado, 42, of Island Park, thinks about the night superstorm Sandy hit, he remembers carrying his then 5-year-old daughter, Marysol, through waist-deep water to get to a safety as his wife held their 3-month-old son, Antonio. Alvarado said he still regrets the decision not to evacuate the area before Sandy, but through the experience, he's gained a newfound appreciation for the time he spends with his family. Although the damage to his home has mostly been repaired, he said he won't feel comfortable until the house is raised. Videojournalist: Tara Conry (Oct. 14, 2013)
