Faces of Sandy: Marysol Alvarado

advertisement | advertise on newsday

The only thing Marysol Alvarado, 6, of Island Park, remembers of the night Sandy hit was her father carrying her through the flooded streets of Lido Beach, where they had been visiting family. For months, Alvarado and her family had to stay with her grandmother in her small Queens apartment while her family's house was being repaired. Now, she's happy to be back home, where she has a new bedroom complete with purple walls, a loft bed and a big chalkboard. Videojournalist: Tara Conry (Oct. 14, 2013)
