Huntington Station group seeks artists for street banners
In keeping with ongoing efforts to revitalize the Huntington Station community, the Huntington Station Business Improvement District (BID) and the Town of Huntington’s Public Art Initiative are collaborating on a light pole banner project to enliven the community.A Request for Proposals (RFP) of artwork to be featured on one side of the planned banners was recently issued. Artists who either live or work in the Town of Huntington are eligible to submit images of artwork for the project prior to a Nov. 13 deadline. An honorarium of $1,000 is being offered to each artist whose image is selected for reproduction on the banners. Approximately 50 banners are planned for installation in April 2010 on light poles at 10 to 12 selected intersections within the boundaries of the Huntington Station BID. On one side the banners will present the slogan for the project – Huntington Station: Moving Forward Together – along with the BID logo and identification of the sponsor for each banner. On the reverse of each banner will be a digitally printed image of one of the artworks selected for the project that exemplifies the project theme as expressed by the slogan. An Artist Selection Panel comprised of representatives from the Huntington Station BID, members of the Town’s Public Art Advisory Committee, and stakeholders from the community will select the winning image or images to be featured. Artists interested in submitting images for consideration can download complete specifications for the project RFP at http://town.huntington.ny.us under “Bids/RFPs.” All other inquiries about the project should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org or via fax to 631-351-2833.
