A memorial plaza in the Peter A. Nelson park on Oakwood Road in Huntington was dedicated Sunday by members of the Huntington Manor Fire Department in cooperation with the Town of Huntington.

Nelson was on his way home on 9/11 after working as a Rescue 4 firefighter in New York City when he heard the call about planes hitting the World Trade Center.  He turned around and headed back to his fire house and was eventually killed in the collapse of the towers.

His # 75 was retired by Huntington Manor and will be activated again if his son Ryan decides to become a member of the dept.  At this time his son in a junior firefighter and is planning to join.
