Bank in Commack held up

The American Community Bank branch in Commack was robbed Friday afternoon.

Suffolk police say “a man entered the bank at 2:17 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding cash and threatened violence if the teller did not comply.”

After the teller handed over money, the robber fled the bank, which is at 100 Commack Rd.  Police describe the suspect as a “white male, possibly Hispanic, in his mid 30s to early 40s, approximately 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, with a medium build and unshaven. He was wearing a black baseball hat, sunglasses, blue jeans and white sneakers.”

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. Calls will be kept confidential.
