A small craft advisory is in effect for most Long Island waters through Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory covers Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook to Fire Island Inlet.

For Long Island Sound, New York Harbor, Peconic and Gardiners bays and South Shore bays from Jones Inlet through Shinnecock Bay, the advisory expires Thursday evening.

Daily high temperatures Thursday and Friday for Long Island are expected to be in the low to mid 50s with west and northwest winds blowing as strong as 18 mph and gusting into the upper 20s, the service's Upton office said.
