Islip to sell credits for burning landfill methane

For years, Islip has reduced its carbon emissions by burning landfill-produced methane. Now, the town will be paid to do it.

Islip plans to sell carbon reduction credits to other municipalities and businesses on the Chicago Climate Exchange, a sort of stock market for eco-friendly acts. Town officials hope to earn more than $100,000 per year.
