Two people were injured in a two-car accident in front of the Shop Rite supermarket on Route 109 in West Babylon just before 2:00 p.m. A Ford pickup truck collided with a Toyota SUV, sending it off the road and trapping the passenger, who had to be extricated by the West Babylon Fire Department, using hydraulic rescue tools. Both the driver and passenger of the Toyota were transported to the hospital by fire department ambulances. The driver of the pickup was not injured. (May 23, 2012)
