Ronald Gross of Great Neck has received the 2013 Award for Lifetime Achievement from the International Society for Self-Directed Learning based on his advocacy of lifelong learning. Gross is co-chair of the University Seminar on Innovation in Education at Columbia University, where he also conducts Socratic conversations with students and faculty, the university said. In addition, he provides life review workshops for local senior citizens, has conducted a "Socrates Salon" at Great Neck Public Library for the past 20 years, and has written books including "A Handbook for the Lifelong Learner," "Peak Learning" and "Socrates' Way."
