Timothea "Timmy" Larr of Oyster Bay was recently among 10 individuals -- and only the second woman to date -- inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame in recognition of her impact on the sport. Larr, a naval architect, is credited with establishing the National Junior Sailing Symposium and assisted in the formation of the U.S. Sailing Association's Small Boat and Keelboat Certification Systems. She also co-authored or contributed to the manuals used in the certification systems, which have helped thousands of people of all ages learn to race, cruise, teach and coach.
