The Long Island Rail Road was operating on or close to schedule Friday morning after a broken rail had caused several delays and at least one cancellation during a three-hour span.

The commuter rail service said at about 9 a.m. it was near normal after several trains were delayed up to 15 minutes on the Port Jefferson branch because of a broken rail east of Cold Spring Harbor.

The LIRR notified customers at about 6 a.m. that the broken rail was causing delays in both directions.

The service verified one cancellation: the 7:28 a.m. train from Cold Spring Harbor due at Penn at 8:25 a.m.
