Long Island Rail Road service east of Jamaica is being restored, but with long residual delays after a car fire on the tracks at New Hyde Park halted trains on multiple lines for more than an hour.
The LIRR reported on its Twitter page about 10:20 p.m. that the car on fire at New Hyde Park Road had been removed and that service would resume.
Delays on the Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines as a result of the car fire varied widely, from about 35 minutes to more than an hour.
The LIRR posted an announcement on Twitter about 9:20 p.m. alerting travelers that service was suspended because of "police activity" at New Hyde Park.
The New Hyde Park Fire Department responded to a call of a car fire there at 9:03 p.m., a dispatcher said.
