Planned track work will affect train service on the Long Island Rail Road's Huntington/Port Jefferson line this weekend, the LIRR said Thursday.
Beginning shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, service will be reduced to hourly, from half-hourly, between Hicksville and Huntington. Trains between Port Jefferson and Huntington will operate every two hours, instead of every 90 minutes.
In addition, westbound customers traveling to Carle Place or New Hyde Park, and eastbound customers boarding at those stations, will have to transfer at Hicksville and can expect up to 30 minutes of additional travel time, the LIRR said.
The service changes will last through 12:35 a.m. early Monday. LIRR officials said regular service will resume in time for the Monday morning rush hour.
The service reductions are necessary as the LIRR takes one track out of service for planned track work.
