Beachgoers can expect a moderate risk for rip currents along Long Island's South Shore, the National Weather Service said Monday.

Boaters could get some morning showers across the eastern two-thirds of coastal waters "as a disturbance associated with the weak low pressure well off the eastern seaboard moves through," the service's Upton office said.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms increase for coastal waters late Monday and into the nighttime hours as a cold front approaches from the west.
