Bellmore's AJ Borowski has more than one goal when he starts his cross-country bicycle trip on Sunday.
The Bellmore man, 26, will be trying to raise money to fight blood cancer as he travels along the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, from Virginia to California, according to News 12 Long Island. His mother Maria died of leukemia in July of last year.
He's also doing something that frees his daring spirit.
"I'm looking for a big adventure in my life," Borowski told News 12. "I'm more excited than scared or nervous right now."
Weather permitting, Borowski said he plans on riding up to 10 to 12 hours daily. It's expected to take three months to make the 5,000-mile trek.
Along the way, he told News 12 he'll be playing a bit of bluegrass and folk music to help raise money. So far, he's raised more than $7,600.
