Police: Queens man surrenders mid-burglary in Floral Park

A Jamaica, Queens, man was arrested Tuesday afternoon when police said his attempt to burglarize a Floral Park home was thwarted -- after a witness saw him breaking into the house in broad daylight.

Anthony Wearen, 54, of 115-04 142nd St., was arrested by Floral Park police officers on charges of second-degree burglary, police said.

He faces arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said a witness spotted Wearen breaking a rear window, then entering the house on Calla Avenue at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The witness then called 911 -- and Floral Park police responded by surrounding the home. Wearen then opened the front door to the house and surrendered, police said.

Jewelry being stolen from the home was recovered in a pillow case, police said.
