A man in a parked car and a Good Samaritan passerby fought off an assault attempt Thursday by a Great Neck man wearing a ski mask and carrying a toy gun, Nassau County police said.

Edward Sedaghati, 29, of 9 Edgewood Place, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, second-degree menacing, possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana after police said he entered a parked car in Manorhaven at about 5:35 p.m.

A man, 30, was in his 2008 Chevrolet parked in the driveway of his Sintsink Drive East home, police said, when Sedaghati, wearing a ski mask, entered the car from the passenger side.

Sedaghati took a handgun from a knapsack he was carrying and a struggle between the two ensued, police said.

Police said the victim pushed Sedaghati out of the car, gained control of the weapon, and another man, 29, walking by helped him contain Sedaghati until officers arrived.

Police said they recovered a toy handgun from the car along with a knife, duct tape, cable ties and a bag with marijuana inside the knapsack.

None of the three men was injured, police said.

Sedaghati is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
