Cancer screening: A roller coaster week

For years, women have been advised to get a first mammogram at age 40 and annual screenings thereafter. There also has been an emphasis on doctors teaching women how to perform breast self-examination. The early detection screenings have led to millions of successful cancer surgeries - and lives saved.
