A woman crashed her car into a Freeport 7-Eleven Thursday afternoon, sending chocolate bars flying and people scurrying for safety, an employee there said.

"My boss yelled 'watch out,' and everyone ran," said cashier Chris Lopez, who was behind the counter at the time. "That lady kept speeding in and she wasn't stopping."

Freeport police confirmed the crash.

The Nissan slammed into the store on Guy Lombardo Avenue near Southside Avenue just before 2:15 p.m., when at least six customers and the manager were also in the store, Lopez said. The vehicle stopped by the second aisle, which carried chocolate bars and other candy.

"Everyone got away when that happened," the cashier said. "It was crazy. It just happened out of nowhere."

No injuries were reported, said Ray Maguire, executive director of the Freeport fire department. The car went through the open doors, so the building structure was not compromised, he said.
