A sedan jumped a curb at an Oceanside strip mall Sunday, damaging the awning structure before coming to rest in front of a Chinese restaurant, Oceanside fire officials said.
Chief William Madden said a man and a woman were in the vehicle about 11:30 a.m. when the car "somehow jumped the curb" at the strip mall on Mott Street, crashing into the awning's concrete and brick support columns. "We're not exactly sure how the collision occurred," Madden said.
The vehicle ended up in a grassy space just outside the Kwik Wok Chinese restaurant, near two of the thick columns, with a third resting on the sedan's hood near its shattered windshield. The driver and passenger were able to get out of the car themselves, Madden said, and were taken to a hospital. He said the fire department shored up the awning with wood until it can be repaired.
No one else was injured, and the restaurant was closed at the time of the collision, Madden said.
Nassau County police said Sunday they had no information about the incident.
