Copper thief raids Wantagh electrical contractor

A contractor's employee threw a rock at a copper thief's vehicle in Wantagh Wednesday morning, breaking a mirror, but he was unable to stop the theft, Nassau police said Thursday.

The employee at JM Electrical Contractors on Wantagh Avenue noticed a surveillance camera had caught a black Jeep Liberty speeding into the rear yard at 11:15 a.m., police said. A male got out and began loading several pounds of the company's copper into the vehicle, police said.

When the employee approached, the suspect drove off, but not before the worker threw a rock at the Jeep, smashing a rear view mirror, police said.
